The final week of October is upon us. The students have been keeping busy in math class. I cannot believe how fast the month of October went by. It's important that your student stays caught up and ahead in all classes. It's difficult to play catch up.
6th Grade: The 6th graders are still building their integer skills this week. They all have shown great improvement in adding integers and this week we'll introduce subtraction of integers. This will challenge them as well, but with a lot of practice I am confident they will be able to master this skill as well.
7th Grade: The end of the rational numbers unit is upon us. The 7th graders are going to continue adding and subtracting rational numbers. We'll also be looking at multiplying and dividing rational numbers. They've been working hard learning to order, compare, and simplify rational numbers. In addition, they have been able to find the GCF and LCM. The unit test is tentatively planned for Friday, November 1.
8th Grade: The 8th graders finished studying irrational and rational numbers. They took a test and overall the outcome was good. This week we start looking at solving and writing equations. We'll start with 1 step equations and work our way up to more complex, multi step equations. Some of this will be familiar to the students, but the challenge will come when more rational numbers are added to the mix.
Have a great week!
